Confirm the Block 1 running order

The booklet gives 60 and 30 minutes in sequence. This desk uses 10:15–11:15 and 11:15–11:45; confirm with the organisers and both speakers.

The room programme

Run of show

What it does: Reads Frankenstein, Tiresias and Le Guin alongside legal texts to explore medicalised bodies, reproductive parenthood and administrative naming.

  • Confirm how the short legal/literary passages will be shared.
  • Invite participation without putting anyone on the spot.
  • Give a clear five-minute cue before the audience-response close.

Care note: Legal misrecognition, medicalisation and family-law language.

What it does: Uses psychoanalytic ideas to question agency, credibility and the narrow conception of desire in the 2013 McNally ruling.

  • Protect the 11:15 handover: introduction should be under one minute.
  • Agree whether questions are included inside the 30 minutes.
  • Close at 11:45 so online and Block 2 transitions remain possible.

Care note: Sexual consent, criminal conviction and discriminatory “gender deception” discourse.

What it does: Asks what younger trans people want to learn from elders and how elders can speak outside imposed medico-legal language.

  • Check how archival items should be displayed or passed around.
  • Hold audience responses with care; do not rush pauses.
  • Announce lunch in the Conservatory immediately after closing.

Care note: Historic exclusion, conversion practices, institutional violence, illness and bereavement.

What it does: A participatory lecture on Khawajasira existence, exile, recognition and the bureaucratic conditions of trans survival.

  • Confirm requirements for annotation and bureaucratic documents.
  • Let silence function as part of the work; avoid filling every pause.
  • At 15:00, direct attendees to the break and reset projection for films.

Care note: Exile, asylum systems, state suspicion, surveillance and disposability.
